Trip Report by Joe Glover January/February 2003
My daughter and son-in-laws first time in Malaysia.
Four great days in K.L. so much to see, so many beautiful buildings
to look at and explore. So many changes after 40 years. Watching them
amazed at the Petronas twin towers. Eating and watching the world go
by down China Town. Very impressed with the KLIA transit, so clean and
modern. Then the onward flight to Penang, just check your luggage in
with Malaysian air at KL Sentral and forget about them untill you arrive
in Penang. Staying at the Holiday Inn is always a pleasure, staff always
so friendly and helpfull. Our favourite places to eat, well take your
choice. Daytime it has to be the Poker cafe next to the Golden Sands,
at night the Kampong restaurant owned and run by the same family, Eden
and so many great Indian restaurants, not forgetting such a wide choice
of all and the cheapest , the Long Beach complex. It was a delight to
meet you there rainy, all the family send their love. If you need anything,
from travel, car hire, a new suit, to ladies outfits, then visit Ron,
opposite the Holiday Inn main road. You can always see Ron sitting outside
his Tailors shop, little guy with spectacles, car hire from Ron 75rm+
25 Insurance, great value compared to the hotels. Wonderful visit up
to the Cameron Highlands, stayed the night at the Heritage Hotel. Next
day, on the way back to Penang, a must for me is a visit to my old hunting
ground Taiping. Driving round the old place gives me a feeling of being
home, Coffee and cake in the town before two hours round the zoo, then
off to my favourite place walking round the Lake Gardens, also this
time feeding the wild monkeys, but thats another story!!!!! This time
loads of DVDs, MP3s for sale, Midlands shopping complex 5th floor and
of course the BF night market, have the best selection. Must take my
golf clubs next visit, the Penang Turf Club golf course looks a good
one. The only thing I missed on this great trip was two cold Tigers
that a certain person owes me, oh well there's always next year. Best
regards. Joe Glover and family. |
